Smell on focusBoticário Group Presents Unprecedented Study on Olfactory Diversity at Congress
In recognition of its pioneering role in the science applied to perfumery and the future of smell, Grupo Boticário was invited to speak at the World Perfumery Congress (WPC), the world’s largest congress dedicated to perfumery.
The WPC brought together the largest industries and suppliers in the cosmetics and fragrance sector. The conference discussed the main factors driving innovation in fragrances, including global trends across all perfumery segments.
The theme of olfactory diversity emerged from a scientific study conducted by Grupo Boticário’s Research and Innovation areas and its Olfactory Research Center (Centro de Pesquisa do Olfato) regarding the olfactory differences within the Brazilian population across different age groups.
Although preliminary, the research suggests that the Covid-19 Pandemic may have affected the olfactory perception of a large portion of the population, mainly causing a reduction in olfactory capacity.
The results also raise an important question: what if the reduction in olfactory capacity is the “new normal” for a portion of the population? How can we advance our knowledge to address such olfactory diversity?
Importance of Smell
The sense of smell has a major impact on health, well-being, and our social relationships. Therefore, it is crucial to consider sensory olfactory diversity in product research and development.
With this study and the international recognition gained from participating in the Congress, Grupo Boticário reaffirms its commitment to meeting the needs of a population with increasingly diverse senses of smell. Thus, the company continues to contribute to a more inclusive and democratic future for perfumery.
